A review vocab game that requires focus

This is a great vocabulary review game. Students have to respond fast and listen to each other. You can easily adjust the time you give them to come up with a word to their level.

In the video, students choose the topic, but you can also have a set of category cards from which they pick one randomly. Every time you finish a topic, you add the new category card to your set. Here they pass the fluffy heart around, but I have also played this with the Bomb app and they lose an arm when it explodes in front of them (as Olivia is demonstrating in the video). Instead of losing a life (or an arm) when repeating a word, you can give them a chance to come up with another one.

Possible problem: big difference in active vocabulary

Possible solutions:

  1. brainstorm the vocabulary before playing the game
  2. start with a weaker student. The one who lost an arm, can pick the next category and start.
  3. play at 2 tables, group split by level
  4. play at 1 table, but make teams of 2 (stronger + weaker student). Students can help by whispering in their teammate’s ear.
